The timing rule most owners miss
Feed your dog at least two hours before a grooming appointment or daycare drop-off. A full stomach and a bath or high-energy play session is a combination that can cause nausea, discomfort, and in rare cases vomiting. Two hours is enough time for initial digestion without your dog arriving hungry and unsettled.
What to feed and what to avoid
Stick to their usual food; grooming day isn't the day to try something new
Avoid high-fat treats in the hours before drop-off
Skip rawhide or long-chew items the morning of a grooming appointment
Water intake is fine right up until drop-off, hydration is good

Light meal 2+ hours before drop-off ✓

No new foods or treats ✓
No high-energy exercise directly before arrival ✓
Bring their food if it's a daycare or boarding visit ✓
Quick tip
If your dog tends to have a sensitive stomach, stick to their lightest meal before a grooming day. Save the bigger evening meal for when they're home and calm.
